A Single Malt Scotch Whisky is defined as Scotch Whisky produced from only water and malted barley at a single distillery in Scotland. It is strictly the product of one specific distillery and has not been mixed with whisky from any other distilleries.
The greatest concentration of malt whisky distilleries can be found in the Speyside region of north-east Scotland, with Highland, Islay, Campbeltown, Lowland and Island being the other main malt whisky producing areas typically described. The island of Islay is often designated as an area in its own right, within the ‘Island’ group, given its rich whisky heritage and the number of distilleries on this small Whisky Island.’ |
