What is a Single Grain Scotch Whisky?

A Single grain whisky is defined as Scotch Whisky produced predominantly from wheat and maize with a small proportion of malted barley, produced at only one distillery in Scotland. There are seven operating grain distilleries in Scotland, the majority being in central Scotland with the exception of Invergordon in the northern Highlands and Girvan in the far south. There are other grain distilleries but these have been either closed or mothballed.
