Glengyle Distillery History

1872	The original Glengyle distillery was founded by William Mitchell
1919	Bought by West Highland Malt Distilleries Ltd
1924	Sold for £300
1925	Closed
1941	Bloch Brothers attempted to revive the distillery
1957	Campbell Henderson applied for outline planning permission
2000	Site purchased by J&A Mitchell & Co Ltd
2004	Finally reopended after 80 years
2007	First malt bottling followed by annual ‘Works in Progress’ bottlings.
2008	Kilkerran 8 Year Old released

Glengyle Distillery Comments

The stills at Glengyle are second hand and were originally used at Ben Wyvis distillery.

Kilkerran is the name of the single malt produced at Glengyle Distillery as the name Glengyle is already used for a blended Highland malt and Mitchell’s Glengyle Ltd were unable to purchase the brand name.
