1794 Established by Stevensons
1883 Acquired by James Walter Higgin and then renovated
1898 Purchased by the Oban & Aultmore-Glenlivet Distilleries Ltd
1923 Purchased by Oban Distillery Co Ltd (part of John Dewar & Sons)
1925 Distiller Company Ltd (DCL) take control
1930 Scottish Malt Distillers Ltd. (SMD)
1931-37 Closed
1969-72 Silent whilst building new still house
1988 Oban 14yo becomes part of the Classic Malts range
1989 A visitor centre is opened
2002 Oban 32 year old released
2010 A distillery only bottling is released
2013 Oban 21 year old limited edition launched

The distillery looks out to sea from the town centre of Oban
Town of Oban grew around the distillery as it was founded before the town itself.

March to Easter Mon - Fri: 10am - 5pm
Easter to June Mon - Sat: 9.30am - 5pm (Open Easter Sunday)
July to September Mon - Fri: 9.30am - 7.30pm
Sat & Sun: 9.30am - 5pm
October Mon - Sat: 9.30am - 5pm
November Mon - Fri: 10am - 5pm
December Mon - Fri: 12.30am - 4pm
(Closed 25th – 27th December)
Admission charge Distillery tours: £7.00
Comments Last Tour:1 hour 15 mins before above closing times.
Children under eight are welcome but are not permitted into production areas.
During Winter or when travelling any distance it is advisable to book in advance.
Closed between Christmas and New Year.
