Ben Nevis Distillery History
1825 Established by ‘Long John’ McDonald.
1955 Taken over by new proprietors with Joseph Hobbs in the driving seat. Coffey still installed for the production of grain spirit
1989 Acquired by present owners Nikka (Japan)
1990 Production of malt whisky revived, but not of grain whisky
1996 Ben Nevis 10 year old launched

Ben Nevis Distillery Comments
The distillery is at the foot of Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest peak, 4,406 feet above sea level.
Under Joseph Hobb’s ownership, a Coffey still was installed, making this distillery one of the first to produce malt and grain whisky simultaneously.
